What can volunteering do for you?  Sure, volunteering is great for your community and makes the world a better place; but could it actually make a positive impact on your life, too?  

Build your confidence Many volunteers encounter a variety of new challenges when they begin giving time in their communities. Sharing new experiences with new people, they can learn new skills that can give them confidence to face challenges in other areas of their lives.

 Improve your healthThere is evidence that volunteering can improve your health. In “The Healing Power of Doing Good”, writer Allan Luks found medical and scientific documentation supporting the health benefits of volunteering, such as:

HOTLINE SERVICES

Answers all phone calls to HCCVAC including possible crisis calls.

Hours Needed: Normal Business Hours

(ON-CALL)

Answers after hours and weekend calls for HCCVAC.

Hours Needed: Evening and Weekends

CRISIS INTERVENTION

Assist Victims in a crisis situation with proper paperwork and aid in helping them receive services available.

Hours Needed: Normal Business Hours

(ON-CALL)

Hours Needed: Evening and Weekends

PERSONAL ACCOMPANIMENT

Provides accompaniment for victims to hospital, law enforcement agency, through the criminal justice system or other facilities as needed.

Hours Needed: Normal Business Hours, Evening and Weekends

COURT WATCH

To attend court proceedings ad notify victims of results.

Hours Needed: Normal Business Hours

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES TO HELP

 

CLERICAL SUPPORT

Provide clerical support such as filing, typing, and other general office duties.

Hours Needed: Normal Business Hours

GROUP FACILITATOR

Will work with a particular group to facilitate the Support Group Session Hours Needed - Once a month, depends on you.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH/ SPEAKER’S BUREAU

Helps promote community education and awareness for sexual assault issues. Help with presentations to communities and schools.

Hours Needed: As Needed

SPECIAL EVENTS

Assist in special events such as Festivals, Vigil, Crime Victims’ Rights Week, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and Childrens’ Christmas Party

FUNDRAISING

HCCVAC does not hold fundraising events, however on occasion our Volunteers hold fundraisers on their own and donate proceeds to help our victims.

COME IN FOR AN INTERVIEW WITH VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR. You can call to set up an appointment convenient for you. (409)246-4300

ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST COMPLETE AN ORIENTATION. The Volunteer Coordinator will contact you with a date and time for orientation.

ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST COMPLETE TRAINING BEFORE WORKING WITH CLIENTS. We will provide complete training for all volunteers so that you can feel confident in what you do. The Volunteer Coordinator will contact you with a date and time for training.
