What Is Primary Prevention?
Would you want to live in a SAFER community? A community where we could feel safe in our homes, on the streets? Where our children can play without our fear of danger? Of course, we all would. But, how do we get there? More law enforcement, more courts, more jails? That may stop one person from committing more crimes, but how can we stop violent crime from starting in the first place? Can we influence the community and societal factors that allow these crimes to continue? You will be hearing a new term - Primary Prevention, and how to work towards ending violence BEFORE it starts, by affecting the factors in our communities, the attitudes that allow violence to develop and grow.
Each and every one in Hardin County can influence the factors that allow violence to continue. We are asking members of all professions, as well as citizens to become Community Partners and be involved in creating social change in Hardin County. We invite you to come and become the part of our community that doesn’t just watch and wring hands and complain, but starts making changes, a little at a time. If you cannot attend the entire sessions, please come for what part you can. Many of the skills and ideas will be useful to you in your work and other programs you may be involved in. If you cannot attend, and you are interested in learning more about Primary Prevention, please contact our Center. We can also come to your place of business or organization to talk about these exciting opportunities in creating social change in our community and our world.
